Jon Souer called the meeting to order @ 7:10 PM. Copies of the sign-in sheet are attached for the record and minutes of Committee Meetings will be posted online for all to read. Corrections should be submitted to Martin Lunde, after which corrected minutes will be reposted. The minutes from the Committee Meeting of February 5, 2005 were approved as posted.

Scoutmaster’s Report by Jon Souer

The Webelos of Pack 153 have decided to join Troop 106 as a group. Possible reasons the Webelos went to Troop 106:

  1. Troop 106 may have a more structured program
  2. The Webelos liked the Scouts of Troop 106 more (prior friendships)

Jon will contact the Webelos of 2004 who went to Troop 711 in 2005 and try to determine why they chose 711. Tom suggested a "press release" to the Saint Anthony Bulletin listing Troop 153 past activities and upcoming activities. Don Burr suggested a slide show at the Pack meeting that illustrates Troop 153 activities. Jon suggested that we need an adult to spearhead the above and one or two adults to do recruitment full time.

Treasurer’s Report by Tom Nelson

  • Checking balance $2,431
  • Savings Balance $2,004
  • Total $4,435 of which $3,404 is encumbered to Scouts accounts
  • Recharter expenses have been paid out, but not all re-charter fees have been received to date.
  • $544 is owed the Troop of which $80 will be written off. Tom is working on the remaining $325.

Eighteen adults (18) and twenty-nine (29) Scouts are registered for 2006. "Ghost Scouts" were not re-registered in order to save money for the Troop.

Donald Burr suggested that popcorn and wreath sales should be separated between the Scouts and the Webelos. This will allow a more accurate accounting of funds and a more timely receipt of the sale monies.

Quartermaster’s Report by Steve Goemer

The five (5) dark blue backpacking tents from Tim Morris’s garage are now stored atFaith in the Scout locker. Steve has two (2) backpacking water filters; however, the backpacking stoves are missing and may still be at Tim’s garage.

The Troop needs new stoves. Steve was authorized to purchase one (1) three burner propane stove on sale (retail is $99, sale price should be about $75).

It was suggested that a Master set of Scout keys (trailer, Faith storage area, etc) be stored in the Scout file cabinet @ Faith. This would allow easier access to equipment before and after Scout events, etc.

Advancement Report by Mike Petersen (not present)

Youth Protection

Joe Loyas has volunteered to become the Youth Protection Person for Troop 153. The Troop offers a BIG THANK YOU to Patty Mans for her past service in this position.

Recycling Report by Scott Roadfeldt (not present)

Upcoming Events:

Tom Nelson would like to do a Superior Hiking Trail trip for a weekend in May. A date will be developed if sufficient interest is shown by the Troop. Also, we do not need to have a new Scout Campout this year because there are only two (2) new Scouts. They will be introduced to the ways of Troop 153 and Boy Scouts during their first camping trip.

  • Joe Loyas said there would be a DNR Firearms Safety class at St. Anthony Community Services. He will check on the exact dates.
  • Ripley Rendezvous will be held April 21 and 22; however, this conflicts with Joe Mans Eagle Court of Honor.
  • On May 20, 2006 District Camporee with the theme of "Outdoor Cooking."
  • June 23 thru July 5 – 2006 American Heritage Trails Trip.
  • A Rainy River Camp, Hike and Fish Expedition will be held Sunday to Sunday in June. The exact dates are to be determined based upon adult schedules. Cost will be $200 plus fuel for each Scout.
  • Tim Morris will lead a Summer Camp Expedition to Medicine Mountain July 23 thru July 29. Cost will be $200 plus $50 fuel for each Scout. In addition, a High Adventure option can be added to the trip for an extra $80/Scout.

With no further business, the meeting was closed at 8:49 PM. The next Committee meeting will be held at 7:00 PM on Sunday April 9th at Faith Methodist Church, St. Anthony, MN.
