 TROOP 153 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

June 4, 2006

Attendees: Martin Lunde, Jon Souer, Steve Goemer, Mike Petersen, Bruce Johnson

and Joe Loyas.

Jon Souer called the meeting to order @ 7:00 PM. An agenda was distributed and is attached for the record. Minutes of Committee Meeting will be posted online for all to read. The minutes from the Committee Meeting of May 2005 were approved as read.

Scoutmaster’s Report by Jon Souer

Attendance at the PLC meetings remains "hit and miss" but is improving. Jon will keep pushing on this issue to get the Scouts together from 7 to 7:30 before each Troop meeting.

The next few Scout meetings will focus upon Summer Camp prep and merit badges. Jon again indicated that camping trip attendance was low and wondering how to correct this. Consideration should be given to developing a Troop cook kit because most camping trips are executed as a Troop rather than a Patrol. Part of the reason for this is the relatively low camping attendance by Scouts.

Jon also wants to consolidate all master keys into one set that is stored in the Scout room at the Church.

Treasurer’s Report by Tom Nelson

Tom was not in attendance. He called and indicated that he would complete and distribute a Treasurer’s report in the near future. Jon indicated that since the last committee Meeting $285 was received from aluminum recycling and approximately $200 was received from the Scouts working Memorial day weekend at the cemetery.

Quartermaster’s Report by Steve Goemer

Not much new to report. Steve is trying to get various Scout keys from Tim Morris and that we need to do a final "purge" of Troop old or defective equipment.

Steve indicated that significant equipment was still outstanding since the last camping trip. All tents are to be returned within one week after a camping trip – cleaned, dried, and properly packed with any damaged noted so that repairs can be made before the next camping trip.

The use of the "Armadillo tents" by Scouts as a reward was discussed. It was decided not to do this; rather, these tents are for adult use only.

Jon will generate a "Policy Paper" regarding the use of personal tents on Troop camping trips. This "Policy Paper" will include:

  1. The use of a personal tent must be approved prior to each camping trip.
  2. If the use of a personal tent is approved, then:
    • There must be 2 Scouts per tent.
    • The Troop is NOT responsible for any and all damage to the personal tent.
    • A Scout cannot be in a tent by himself.
    • All Scout rules continue to apply within personal tents.
    • The camp site must be large enough to accommodate the use of personal tents.

Advancement Report by Mike Petersen

David Lunde’s Eagle Court of Honor will be held at Central Park Pavilion on Sunday July 9, 2006 from 2 PM to 5 PM. Picnic to follow.

Youth Protection by Joe Loyas

Seventeen (17) Scouts still need their Class 1 medical form updated and the paperwork for such has been distributed to the Scouts. SSD, SA and youth Protection can be done online for those Scouts and Leaders that have not complete such to date.

Recycling Report by Scott Roadfeldt (not present)

$285 was received from aluminum recycling (presently $.80/lb).

Strength Report

The Silverwood Camp/Cook Out was a huge success and positive experience for both the Troop and Cub Scouts.

The Troop will invite the Cub Scouts to participate in Village Fest this year camping in Central Park as it was a big hit last year. Activities would include building a lashed tower and water balloon hurls. Village Fest is the 1st weekend in August, so the Troop and Cubs would camp on Friday night. Jon suggested that a parade float could be fashioned from his pontoon boat trailer so that the Troop and Cubs could be in the Village Fest parade.

Upcoming Events

  • Seven (7) Scouts have signed up for the July 16 – 22 Black Hills trip.
  • June 23 thru July 5 – 2006 American Heritage Trails Trip.

With no further business, the meeting was closed at 8:49 PM. The next Committee meeting will be held at 7:00 PM on Sunday July 9th at Faith Methodist Church, St. Anthony, MN.
