TROOP 153 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

10-September-2006

Attendees: Martin Lunde, Jon Souer, Roy Nelson, Mike Petersen, Tom Nelson, Steve Goemer and Joe Loyas.

Jon Souer called the meeting to order @ 7:07 PM. An agenda was not distributed. Minutes of Committee Meeting will be posted online for all to read.

Scoutmaster’s Report by Jon Souer

The Annual Planning meeting was held at Catco on August 27, 2006. The results of it can be found at www.jonsouer.com/AnnualPlanning.htm. In addition, two major items resulted from this meeting:

  1. Camping trips will be an every other month activity. Some other forms of activity will occur on the "opposite" (non camping) months.
  2. A number of Scouts are frustrated by their Patrol Leaders missing meetings and activities. Thus a proposal was put forth stating that any Patrol Leader who misses 3 meetings will be removed from his position as Patrol Leader. This will be presented for approval at the next Troop meeting.

Village Fest was a great community support tool. Many people in the community had an opportunity to see what our Troop is up to and reminisce about their old scouting days. The fund raising, however, needs to be reevaluated. This past Fest raised $119, but if the cost of fuel to get the logs, the balloon filling station and the balloons totaled $115, the net profit wold have been $4, not counting the time spent getting the stuff. Options include boiling and selling corn on the cob. Also, there needs to be better scheduling for this event. Possible changes for next year are:

  • Set up the camp before the parade.
  • Have a breakfast in the park before the balloon station is set up
  • Sell corn on the cob
  • Charge people to be "Targets" down on the field
  • Have Scout leaders in Uniform down field for fun and supervision.

Jon presented the announcements and schedule regarding the following training events from the most recent Round Table:

  • Shooting – Joe Loyas is very interested in this
  • Kids Ability
  • University of Scouting
  • BSA Leader Training
  • Trails End Popcorn – need a volunteer to pursue this

Jon wanted to know if the Outdoor Theater at Salo Park was available for use by the Scouts. Joe Loyas indicated that he would investigate.

Treasurer’s Report by Tom Nelson

Tom offered the following:

  • Checking balance = $2,548
  • Savings balance = $2,012
  • Total balance = $4,560

Of the total balance $2,129 is encumbered to individual Scouts; thus leaving $2,431 as cash reserves.

Tom suggested that we need to push popcorn and Christmas wreath sales in order to increase the cash reserves.

Quartermaster’s Report by Steve Goemer

Not much new to report. Some equipment is still outstanding since the last camping trip at Silverwood.

Jon generated a "Policy Paper" regarding the use of personal tents on Troop camping trips. This "Policy Paper" is posted at www.jonsouer.com/Policy_Tents.doc. Mike Petersen made a motion that the policy should be run past the Scouts; motion was seconded and carried.

Tom indicated that St. Anthony High School would again like some assistance and cook out gear for their annual camping trip on September 29, 2006. This was discussed and approved. Tom will organize.

Advancement Report by Mike Petersen

The next Board of Review will be on Monday September 11 following the Troop activity.

The next Court of Honor will be on September 18. Mike cannot attend, but he will organize all of the awards. Mike suggested (and all agreed) that the Webelos of Pack 153 should be invited to attend and that pictures of past Troop activities should be shown. It was also decide that a "parent meeting" should not be held during this Court of Honor as it would scatter the focus of the Court of Honor.

There will be an Eagle Preview at the October 5th Round Table beginning @ 7:00 PM at university Church of Hope.

Kris Goemers Eagle Court of Honor will be held at Silverwood Park on Sunday October 29, 2006 from 3 to 5 PM.

Youth Protection by Joe Loyas

Joe distributed a summary copy listing all forms (medical, SSD, SA, etc) presently up-to-date in the Scout records, by Scout. A record copy is attached top these minutes.

Mike Petersen re-qualified for BSA lifeguard for 3 more years this past summer. Way to go Mike!!!!

Recycling Report by Scott Roadfeldt

No report as Scott was not present.

Strength Report

Adult members of Troop 153 will continue to discuss specific events with the leaders of Pack 153. It was suggested that such discussions also occur with the leaders of other Packs in order to generate interest about T 153.
