5-November-2006

Attendees: Bruce Johnson, Martin Lunde, Jon Souer, Mike Petersen, Tom Nelson and Joe Loyas

Jon Souer called the meeting to order @ 7:10 PM. Copies of the printed agenda and the sign-in sheet are attached for the record. Minutes of Committee Meetings will be posted online for all to read. Corrections should be submitted to Martin Lunde, after which corrected minutes will be reposted. The minutes from the Committee Meeting of October 8th were recorded by Bruce Johnson and are included in the record.

Scoutmaster’s Report by Jon Souer

Jon Souer developed a parents handbook from information gathered from Scott Roadfeldt, Tim Morris and BSA items found on-line. Jon requested that the adult leaders of T-153 review it before it goes to final publication.

Merit Badge nights seem to be going "OK." However, more Merit Badge counselors are needed.

Jon developed a link to forms regarding such at: www.jonsouer.com/troop153/forms.

A motion was made to have Joe Loyas assume the role of Committee Chair and Bruce Johnson move to the position of Technical Support beginning January 1,2007. Following discussion, a vote was taken and the motion was carried. Initially, Bruce will help set up the program "Scoutmate" and work with Tom Nelson on financial records and Mike Petersen on advancement records.

In the interest of additional security, it was also decided to keep the Master copy of Scout records on a laptop locked in the Scout file cabinet, locked in the Scout room at the church.

Finally, Dan Zemmels will again head the Christmas wreath sales this year and Sarah McFee will head the popcorn sales.

Treasurer’s Report by Tom Nelson

The balances remain the same as reported for October (checking and savings @ $4,560 with $2,129 earmarked for Scout accounts) as the last two trips were a "wash." However, there is a need for additional funds in the Scout accounts in order to pay for upcoming trips (Philmont, Many Point, etc). Fund raising ideas were offered:

  • Pancake Breakfast – held at Applebees, or better yet at Faith Methodist. Menu of pancakes with scrambled eggs, strawberries, blueberries, to to make it special. Tom to speak with his Dad who is a Lion and may have access to a "pancake trailer."
  • Chili Feed – held at St. Anthony Community Center and offer chili to go….

In any case, the event MUST be promoted properly in order to be successful. Any monies raised should be split 80/20 between the Scouts who participate and Troop.

Revisit this entire topic at the November Committee meeting.

Quartermaster’s Report (Steve Goemer not present)

A number of hoses for the propane stoves and tanks are missing and must be either located or replaced.

Advancement Report – Mike Petersen

Kris Goemer received his Eagle award. Eric Petersen’s award ceremony is scheduled for November 26th @ Nativity Lutheran church; however, the location may change to Faith Methodist.

Matt Johnson is trying to finish on his last 3 badge before his 18th birthday on November 11, 2006.

Nick’s Eagle project has been approved, but fund raising for it is an issue. He turns 18 in December.

It was suggested that during the recharter for 2007, most of the ASM’s should register as Committee members to allow more adults sit on the Boards of Review.

Youth Protection – Joe Loyas

Most of the required youth forms are up to date. Joe is working on getting all event driver forms up to date. Joe indicated that we should continue to file for trip permits for all trips in order to maintain BSA insurance coverage on each trip.

Strength Report

The Webelos and Scouts seemed to have a good time at the last Troop meeting with Computer Merit Badge.

Upcoming Events

An overall list of the upcoming events as down loaded fro the T 153 web site is attached. Three items of particular interest are:

  • Turkey Bingo is scheduled for November 17 @ St. Laurance Catholic Church – four (4) Scouts are needed for service at this event.
  • Mike Petersen submitted application to Philmont for a trip during the Summer of 2008.
  • Grey Wolf leadership camp is open to selected Scouts in leadership positions in T 153. Nominations are open.
