TROOP 153 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

December 6, 2005

Attendees: Bruce Johnson, Martin Lunde, Jon Souer, Tom Nelson, Joe Loyas and Vince Mans

Bruce Johnson called the meeting to order @ 7:05 PM. Copies of the printed agenda distributed by Bruce and the sign-in sheet are attached for the record. Minutes of Committee Meetings will be posted online for all to read. Corrections should be submitted to Martin Lunde, after which corrected minutes will be reposted. The minutes from the Committee Meeting of November 6, 2005 were approved as posted.

Scoutmaster’s Report by Jon Souer

Jon would like adults to be coaches for each Patrol position in the Troop. He had printed job descriptions and evaluations sheets for each position. The Scouts would be "graded" at each position.

The Troop schedule is posted online. During the December 19th Troop meeting: Friends of Scouting will be discussed; the summer High Adventure activity will be discussed and there will be a parent meeting.

Jon discussed the need for a solution to the aluminum issue as storing crushed pop cans Faith is not reasonable. Perhaps the old trailer could be brought to a Troop meeting one meeting per month??

Treasurer’s Report by Tom Nelson

  • There is $1,328 in the checking account and $2,000 in the savings account (of which $1,750 is encumbered).
  • Approximately $500 is owed the Troop for misc items.
  • Tom invoiced for the upcoming Winter camping trip – 12 people @ $55 per person.

Popcorn sales are a Troop fundraiser. This year the gross was $990.

Wreath sales are split 80/20 (Scout/Troop). This year gross sales were $1,223. This yields $500 for Scouts and $100 for the Troop after expenses.

Quartermaster’s Report (Steve Goemer not present)

The move from Catco to Faith is complete. All of the equipment was inspected during the move and what was not used or in bad repair was discarded.

Scott is working to see if the old trailer could be stored at Computype on a permanent basis. The trailer is presently stored there on a temporary basis.

Advancement Report – Mike Petersen (not present)

Youth Protection – Patty Mans (not present)

Vince Mans checked and found that the Youth Protection training is good for 2 years. Thus must be renewed periodically. Joe Loyas indicated that both Youth Protection and Safety Afloat training can be completed online, so are fairly easy to renew.

Upcoming Events:

A list of options needs to be developed for this Summers High Adventure event. The list should them be cut to 3 possibilities after which a thorough discussion should lead to the best option.

  • Webelo Scouts were invited to the Eagle Cave camping trip on January 6 and 7, in Madison Wisconsin. The cost is $45 to $50 and the Scouts sleep overnight in safe caves. Sign up required by November 7. Thus far no Webelos have signed up for the trip.
  • June 23 thru July 5 – 2006 American Heritage Trails Trip – see attached flyer regarding this.
  • A winter camping trip to Alpha Loupa will be scheduled if enough Scouts are interested. As an option the Troop could do its own trip – perhaps to a yurt near Duluth.

With no further business, the meeting was closed at 8:00 PM. The next Committee meeting will be held at 7:00 PM on Sunday January 8th at Faith Methodist Church, St. Anthony, MN.
