Camping, Fishing and Exploring in remote Canadian wilderness 110 miles NW of Thunder Bay Canada, 70 miles north of Upsula Ontario Canada on the Kishishibog River and Sparkling Lake.

Cost; $250.00 (Pay $50.00 by 15-January, 15-March, 15-May, 15-Jun, 15-July)

Who can go: All scouts 1st class or higher and participated in a minimum of 5 camping trips with Troop 153 within the last year and a half. There is a maximum of 18 scouts and scouters on the trip. Additional Requirements:

  • Safety Afloat
  • Safe Swim Defense
  • Canoeing Training
  • B S A Swim Test
  • Scouts participating in outings but not fulfilling assigned duties (Set-Up, Cooking, Cleaning, Etc…) or acting inappropriately are ineligible for the trip at the desecration of the Trip Chair.

Friday - Prepack - Have all gear ready and pack trailers with everything except personal traveler items

Saturday - Leave 8:00AM, Drive to Kakabeka Falls and pick up bait and food, Drive to Upsula.

Sunday - Drive to Boat Landing and transfer to Canoes, Travel to Camp and Set-Up Camp

Monday -  Fish, Eat, Explore (Dinner is what we catch)

Tuesday -  Fish, Eat, Explore (Dinner is what we catch)

Wednesday -  Fish, Eat, Explore (Dinner is what we catch)

Thursday -  Fish, Eat, Explore (Dinner is what we catch)

Friday - Brake Camp, Canoe to vehicles, Pack, Drive to Upsula

Saturday - Return home about 5:00PM

Individual travel items needed (Pack a bag for the drive up and the return trip. This bag will stay in the vehicles and wil not be taken to the fishing camp):

  • Clean clothes for the return trip (Clean Shirt, 2 pair underwear, pants, Walking shoes, 2 pair Socks, Dry jacket or sweatshirt or fleece)
  • Scout Shirt and Neckerchief
  • Electronic Gear for travel

Individual personal items needed (Stuff that may be needed though-out the trip, keep this stuff on your person):

  • Passport or certified copy of Birth Certificate / Health Forms / Permission slips signed by parents
  • Toiletries; Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Comb, Washcloth, Towel, Ivory Soap, Shaving Kit, Optional Mirror
  • Water Bottle / Flashlight and extra batteries
  • Rain Gear / Bug Spray / Sunglasses / Water Shoes
  • Camera / Film
  • Medications
  • G P S (Set waypoint at boat landing)

Individual camping items needed (Stuff needed at the fishing camp but not needed during travel):

  • Sleeping Bag (Small Pillow) with Cot or Mattress / Optional old Sheet to line inside of sleeping bag / Stocking Cap (Pack in waterproof bag or container (ex. Garbage bag)
  • Fishing Gear (Pole with Open Face Reel and Good Clutch, Tackle, Knife, Paint Eye Breaker, Stringers, Mouth Openers, Landing Nets, Sponges, Worm Boxes (Empty Country Time Lemonade Container), Fillet Knife, Stone, Etc…, Put new 8 pound line before the trip and use 3/8 ounce lead-heads (about 40) with assorted colored bodies and worm. Make small kit to take in the canoe)
  • Pocket Klnife / Needle Nose Pliers / Rubber Glove (opposite from dominate hand) / Compass/ Optional Seat Cushion
  • Rain Gear / Bug Spray / Sunglasses / Floppy Hat / Sun Block / Optional Hiking Boots / Extra Rod per Family
  • Clothing Appropriate for the season {LAYERS}; Socks, Underwear, Short Sleeved Shirt, Long Sleeved Shirt, Sweatshirt, Long Paints, Short Paints, Gloves, Fall Jacket, Light Jacket, Bag for dirty cloths packed in 18 gallon Rubbermaid tubs with name on outside; maximum one (1) tub per person.
  • Life Jacket / Swimming Trunks
  • Ice Cream Buckets to collect Blueberries
  • Purchasing an Ontario Fishing license allows you to bring back 2 fish of each species.

Troop Items Needed:

  • Canoes - six (6) square stern with motors / four (4) regular (Spare props and shear pins / Gas cans and hoses / Gas and Outboard Oil (Mix as needed, use extra in vehicles on the way back) / Funnel / Measuring Cup / Tow Ropes) / Shoulder Pads / Paddles.
  • Trailers / Cook Boxes (with Dish Towel / Dish Cloth) / Water Jugs
  • Cook Stoves / Gas Lines / Gas Trees and Propane / Food (Buy potatoes in Canada) / Coolers
  • Food Saver / Bags / Fillet Boars to be used in Canoes
  • Sleeping Tents / Cook Tents - with mosquito netting / Tarps / Duct Tape
  • Electric Fencer - with wire and insulators (Steve Goemer)
  • Hand Tools with wrenches / Chain Saw/ Hand Saw / Hatchet / Axe / Can of Nails / Plywood to make tables
  • First Aid Kit / Bee Sting Medications (Epie Pen) / Shovels
  • Generator and Electrical Cords
  • Safe Swim markers, chain and rope / Tongue Depressors for Buddy System.
  • Water Filters and Purification System (Pot to boil the water.)
  • Freezer - keep fish (Tom Nelson) / Ice (1/2 Gallon Containers)
  • Bait (Buy in Canada) / Worm Box to hold bait / Buss Bedding (Presoaked) / Ice Packs
  • Reserve Motel Rooms, File Float Plan, File Tour Permit / Order Shirts
