Organization BSA Organizational Chart
Troop Operations - The Senior Patrol Leader and his Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) lead the operation and planning for the troop. The adults role in the Boy Scouting program is to provide a safe environment in which all scouts can participate and to counsel the youth leaders so they are able to fulfill their leadership responsibilities. As adult leaders and mentors, we must let the boys do things for themselves. We need to praise the boys for the effort, provide feedback when appropriate and reward accomplishments both large and small. The scouts participating in the PLC discuss and plan the events for the troop. Adults that are acting as facilitators for a specific event or activity are supported by the committee but support and act under the direction of the scouts on the PLC. Adults that are acting as mentors for a specific scout position are supported by the committee but support and act under the direction of the scout in that position. The troop committee is to make sure all the necessary safety precautions are taken within the guidelines established by the BSA and the troop committee. Some events are very involved and may require considerable time yet some activities may require no more then one regular meeting. All help is appreciated no matter how big or small the time commitment is. Parents are encouraged to come and be active in the troop committee. The troop committee meets the first Sunday following the First Thursday of the month at Faith United. More information can be found on the "Adult Information" page of the troop web site. Training Opportunities - There are numerous training opportunities for youth and adults alike. The troop will provide Junior Leader Training for the troop leadership. Watch for district, counsel, and national training dates as well as the troop sponsored training. Fees for local adult training courses will be paid by the troop upon successful completion of the course. Training is offered in the following areas through the troop, the council, or on-line:
Planning and Preparation - The troop has camping rules and planning activities for events that establish both a level of safety and a level of scout confidence. For some events the planning is done at regular troop meetings, however, for some events attendance at additional planning or training may be required. Events are limited to those scouts that have mastered the skills necessary to safely participate. For example most of the troops high adventure trips are limited to scouts that are at least 13 years of age and have achieved the ranks of First Class of higher. Each trip has the appropriate guidelines published in the information about that trip.Merit Badge Counselors - The scout program is dependent on Merit Badge Counselors to provide specific skills on specific topics. This is a great way to share your vocation or hobby with both your son and the other scouts in the troop. If you are interested in becoming a Merit Badge Counselor please contact the Advancement Chair or Scoutmaster.Roster - The troop will publish a roster that contains the names, street addresses, phone numbers, and E-mail addresses of active scouts and scouters. The roster will also show the Patrol and that the Scout or Scouter holds. If you find and errors, or your information changes, notify the Committee Chair and the Scribe. For security reasons this roster will not be published on-line.Community Outreach - The troop will operate a booth at the St. Anthony Village Fest to keep our focus in our community. The troop maintains communication and shares the same facility as Pack 3153. Whenever possible the troop will facilitate and support programs with the local schools and other community organizations. |
